Visiting Musandam: what about the Oman e-Visa?

You want to go to Oman for your next holiday and visit the Musandam peninsula in particular. You need an up-to-date visa to enter Oman for more than 14 days, but what about Musandam? Do I need to make a special application? Should you apply for a new visa? Here are some answers to help you make the right decision.

Apply for a visa for Oman

You need a visa to visit the Sultanate of Oman if you are staying for more than 14 days. Applying is very simple. Simply log on to the official website and fill in the application form, taking care not to make any mistakes.

The application is entirely in English, so if you have the slightest doubt or difficulty, it may be a good idea to use a specialist agency. The agency will be responsible for completing your application and sending it to the Omani authorities. The agency will also send you your visa by e-mail. All you have to do is print it out and take it with you. There is a charge for obtaining an e-visa, but you can pay directly on the site using your bank card.. Expect to pay around 20 Omani rials (49 €) to obtain your e-visa.

Be sure to fill in all the forms correctly, as the site is directly designed and managed by the Oman Police. ⚠️ Please note that the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman, located in Paris, cannot intervene on the website or the online form. In the event of a problem, your application may be definitively refused.

What about a visit to Musandam?

The Musandam Peninsula is separated from the rest of Oman by an area of land belonging to the Emirate of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates. It offers an extraordinary panorama, with desert mountains almost 2,000 metres high. Musandam looks like a fjord, but in the heart of Arabia.

It is also an important strategic zone controlling the Strait of Hormuz, 50km from Iran. Located at the northern tip of the Emirates, Musandam is directly accessible from the town of Khasab.

But can you get in with your e-visa? This depends on the type of visa you have applied for. If you want to drive to the Musandam peninsula via the United Arab Emirates, you will need a multiple-entry visa. You will be making a total of three entries to Oman Firstly, at Muscat airport, then across the Oman/United Arab Emirates border to the Musandam peninsula, and finally back to Oman after your visit to Musandam. Please specify your preferred type of visa when you fill in your application form. You finally get a 30-day multiple-entry visa for one year for about 50 Omani rials (123 €).

If you are just passing through the Emirates, without spending the night there, the embassy states that it is perfectly possible to make the journey on a single-entry visa.
